Introducing Trains

One of the first directed activities that is introduced in Gattegno's textbook is building trains. Children love building trains, and it is because of the story element that trains bring that children connect with them so easily.   It's the idea of adventure and travel through strange lands with strange animals and new people that appeals to young children. 

Using trains stories to introduce this activity like shown in the video above can make a dramatic improvement in the presentation of this activity.  Children will connect more deeply with this activity when there is a strong story element.  ​
