Give Thanks even When the Season is Hard

It is the season to Give Thanks!  I just love Thanksgiving. The turkey, the pumpkin pie, the cookies, the crafts, and I would say the lovely autumn air.   However, we are living in the dry desert, and it is still hot.   Time to turn the air condition up and make it feel like fall.

Last year, we started a tradition of putting up a “Give Thanks” Banner.  We added to our banner all month long writing about the things that made our hearts thankful.

It was a real struggle last year.  I had just got divorced.  The kids and I moved in with my parents to whole other state, and for the kids, it was really hard to give thanks.

I wanted to respect their legitimate grief, but I wanted them to take this opportunity to give thanks even when it was hard.  They were amazing last year finding all the reasons to be thankful despite their lives being turned upside down.

I was thankful to God that at such a young age they had the opportunity to thank God in such difficult circumstances.  I know it sounds like an peculiar thing to be thankful about, but in my Bible studies, I had come to realize that such opportunities are for the growth and maturity of the saints.

It isn’t easy to be thankful when your heart is clouded in pain, and it is why Paul left us with so many reminders to give thanks in all things (the good, the bad and the ugly).

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.  1 Thessalonians 5:18

Today, if you are finding it hard to be thankful, be encouraged.  You aren’t alone. We all find ourselves there. Seek Jesus to bring healing to your heart and to open your eyes to see that He indeed loves you and will work all things for your good.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

I would love to share with you our “Give Thanks” Banner for free.  Click HERE to download!  I hope you find it a blessing during this season of thanksgiving.
